Licensed and Certified Athletic Trainer
To become a certified athletic trainer, a student must graduate with bachelors or master’s degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program and pass a comprehensive test administered by the Board of Certification (BOC). Once certified, he or she must meet ongoing continuing education requirements in order to remain certified. Athletic trainers must also work in collaboration with a physician and within their state practice act.
CSCS
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists® (CSCS®) are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. Candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree or currently be enrolled as a college senior.
OPE-C
Certified Orthopedic Physician Extender
This certification indicates the knowledge and skills in the following competency areas within orthopedic practice: (1) Evidenced-based reasoning in the assessment and management for specific musculoskeletal injury/pathology; (2) Appropriate fracture immobilization and identifying the fundamental goals relative to patient care/safety; (3) Understanding of musculoskeletal imaging and intervention strategies/techniques in orthopedic practice; (4) Surgical considerations in clinical practice (5) Knowledge of orthopedic healthcare management and leadership practices. In order to receive this certification, a candidate must be a certified athletic trainer.
CPT
Certified Personal Trainer
Certified Personal Trainers are health/fitness professionals who, using an individualized approach, assess, motivate, educate and train clients regarding their personal health and fitness needs. They design safe and effective exercise programs, provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health/fitness goals, and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or an equivalent.
CMA
Certified Medical Assistant
Medical Assistants are multi-skilled allied health professionals that work under the direction of practitioners in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. Medical assistants are part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team and performs administrative duties and clinical procedures.
To become a certified medical assistant, individuals typically complete a formal education program from a recognized institution. These programs may result in a diploma, certificate, or associate degree.
