Piriformis Syndrome is a real pain in the butt. BUT… often the cause of the pain is not from the butt (AKA Gluteal Muscle Group). Most likely your pain is coming from a biomechanical issue above or below the radiating pain. Symptoms of Piriformis syndrome include achy, hot, or burning pain in or near the glutes. The Piriformis and/or sciatic nerve is compressed and trapped causing intermittent neurological pain. Some patients may have tingling, dull-pain, or weakness radiating down the affected leg.
Treatment of Piriformis Syndrome should begin with a thorough biomechanical assessment by a qualified medical professional. Athletic Trainer will complete a functional and biomechanical assessment, gait analysis, muscle testing, neurological testing, and a thorough medical history to create an effective rehabilitation plan to get you back to your favorite activities and forms of exercise.
